Level 5 Overview: Prototype (Placeholder?) Celeberation
| |
This is a verbatim copy of Level 15, except the dolphin celebration that takes place in it, after which
the dolphins become sporadically invisible. The exit still works and the title card still reads Fourth Level.

Level 5 is based in Home Bay (Level 4) again, but it's so similar, it even uses
the same "Fourth Stage" title card. As soon as you begin the stage a scripted
sequence begins.
It's the epilogue animation from Ecco 2, except the dolphins don't follow
the same recorded pattern per se (since the level is different!) as they do in the final
version.
This is all looking pretty normal right now.
Here's where things get a little odd. Ecco is facing off to the left, instead of
facing straight up like in the final version. In another jump he uses the correct
frames, but not here. |
Where did all the other dolphins come from all of a sudden?
Ecco's using the proper sprites now, so he isn't facing off to the side. |
Once the victory dance is complete, the dolphins line up in front of you to
congratulate you.
Wait, what did I accomplish exactly? Oh well, thanks. I try. :) Note how the text is not
aligned on the screen, it's shifted off to the top-left.
Well, I suppose, as long as you stay out of Level 8. Eesh. This screen is also aligned off
to the upper-left.
The credits should go here, but .. they don't. Instead there is this Hungarian text.
As expected, it was an Easter Egg placeholder: "The quote "A MUNKA SZABADDA TESZ" means: "the work makes you free". Zero meaning, we do it just for fun ...
Programmers make it for fun sometimes." - Laszlo Szenttornyai
After the message screens, the dolphins scatter. "Retreat to your exits. Crabs are coming." "CRABS?!!"
After you've finished the Victory Dance, the dolphins will disappear and reappear
from the Bay and from Sonar randomly. Probably to cover up the fact that they have no messages,
so if you tried to sing to them it would be an awkward experience.

Interestingly enough, the dolphins are invisible here in the final version, but they still show
up on sonar. I managed to snag a screenshot of one of them-- note how these dolphins don't have
collision detection- they can swim right through walls if their movement paths aren't correct.
I'm sure they won't mind me looking around the place as long as they're dashing in and out.
The bubble spigots are still functioning. Damn it you guys, do you have any idea how much power
you're wasting leaving these on when you're out?!
Ah, there's another one. Get down there and turn off those bubbles, they're lagging the
place up! ... Anyway, this is back at Level 4's starting position, but still in Level 5.
The fish are still present. .. not only that, but the exit is still there, the dolphin who Knows Where Is the Cave is still
present, the exit even takes you to the same location. This stage was clearly just an edited version
of Level 4.
