Level 17 Overview: Prototype Vortex Queen

This is a mostly-complete prototype version of the Vortex Queen level. There is no background and the Queen can't be defeated, probably set this way because there was no animation or scripted sequence ready to end the game just yet. The Queen can eat you, and if she does you just die, you don't go to any stomach level (none exist, unless you count Level 15.)

Here's where you start out. There's no background and there's a big empty space below you. In the final version the platform just starts lower altogether.

The beam that's normally present in the final version is present and functioning properly. You even stay paralyzed for the exact same length of time.

The Vortex Queen is present and using the same graphics she does in the final version. Her tail is made up of red blobs instead of a string of individual sticklike segments as in the final version. But, she moves it in the exact same path and can grab you with it.

When the Queen eats, she sucks up a few random sprites, including fish, jellyfish, and some odd purple shark-like sprite. Some more random sprite consumption.

If you sonar her, she takes damage and retreats back into her chamber somewhat. She spits up stars, and never the red blobs she does in the Final version. She can also bite you. If you get eaten you have to start the level over, you don't go to some other level (but, they wouldn't exist anyway. But I thought you'd end up in Level 15 personally...) At any rate, you can't defeat the Queen.

You're pretty much safe in this spot, but when the Queen sweeps the area with her tongue it will clip you. Just pull away quickly as it tries to grab you and you'll be fine.

Here's a Sonar map of the level. I took this after getting eaten, you usually stay there for quite a while until she finishes her eating cycle, before you get 'swallowed'.
